THE ROAD TO ROME, 1944

A MULTI-NATIONAL CAMPAIGN...

Rome has only been invaded successfully from the south twice in history. In 1944, the Allied march on the Italian capital was a combined effort on the part of a worldwide collaboration of troops.

FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS..

On this unique six-day tour, we will immerse ourselves in the campaign that centred on the abbey at Montecassino, and the tragedy of the town that found itself in the path of mechanised warfare at its most bitter.

START TO FINISH...

Our itinerary includes an examination of the four separate scraps for the ground that guarded the road to Rome in 1944. We'll follow all manner of those that played a part in the campaign; from the incredibly challenging task, allowed to the French at Belvedere, to the attritional misery inflicted on Germans and  New Zealanders alike in the town of Cassino itself. We'll examine Indian attempts to scale the heights below,  the Americans and the Rapido Crossing, and the Polish ascent to the abbey.
