4 DAYS, ONE LEGEND

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW WINSTON?!

On this relaxed long weekend, you'll get to know the man - the wartime Prime Minister - the 'former naval person' - and the family man, as we go walking with Winston in the company of Peter Caddick-Adams : esteemed writer, author, broadcaster and military historian.

DAY 1

Sir Winston Churchill was ready for the Second World War, having already served in war cabinets himself. He understood the art of the possible. After our  first revealing introduction from Peter, you'll have a feel for Churchill's role in broader historical context - this will be a brilliant introduction to the man and the essence of his success. Then, in the afternoon, it’s off for a spot of indulgence Churchill style - stock up on his favourite cigars, learn about his favourite refreshments. The evening is reserved for a special night of Second World War themed code-breaking and cocktails.

DAY 2

Today we concentrate on Churchill the young man. We will be boarding a coach and leaving London for our short journey to Blenheim Palace, where Winston was born, and where he rests today. You'll learn about Churchill's family, his background and childhood, his early life and his path into politics. We will, of course, pay our respects at Sir Winston Churchill's grave.

DAY 3

In central London again, we explore Churchill’s time in the city - his time served during both World Wars. It's a day of walking, as Alex Churchill tells the stories of Churchill's fluctuating fortunes. We will learn about his time at the Admiralty, and what he did after the disastrous Gallipoli campaign - almost ending his career. Then it’s on to the Second World War, and to the Cabinet War Rooms - before returning to the hotel, to prepare for the evening. We'll be adjourning to one of Churchill’s favourite restaurants for a first class, champagne dinner. With after dinner speeches, of course!

DAY 4

On this last day, we get to know Churchill the family man with a trip to Kent. We'll be visiting Chartwell, his family home from 1922 onwards. It was here that he wrote his multi-volume history of the Second World War, and where he lived out his retirement. Churchill loved nothing more than a traditional English roast, and so we will adjourn to a local pub for a late Sunday lunch and a toast in his honour before the journey back to London.

'He understood the art of the possible so well ... on this 'Weekend with Winston', you'll get to know Churchill as a soldier, a Prime Minister, and a family man..."

In his new, concise biography of Winston Churchill, Peter reveals the secrets to Churchill's success - which he'll be sharing with you on this weekend.

ALEX CHURCHILL ISTORIA.png

PETER CADDICK-ADAMS

Alex will be your guide to all things WW2 on this trip. Landmarks and landscapes, heroes and villains, travelling Roman roads in search of victory.

It's more than likely Alex will also be sharing insights as to how the First World War shaped culture, politics, art, and military aspirations during WW2, as she'd authored and broadcast extensively on both turbulent time periods.
